NACH is currently working with qualifying individuals who were employed prior to COVID-19 layoffs but have lost their income due to this novel coronavirus. These individuals and their families are in a position of facing instant homelessness. NACH's goal is to help them prevent homelessness by providing immediate and temporary assistance until they can get on their feet again.
COVID-19 IMMEDIATE NEEDS
- $25 Visa or Mastercard gift cards*
- $50 Visa or Mastercard gift cards*
- $100 Visa or Mastercard gift cards*
- $10 meal vouchers from affordable restaurants ($10 should provide at least one meal)
- $15 gas cards
- Large backpacks or duffel bags**
- Sleeping bags**
- NEW Personal hygiene products (i.e. toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine napkins, wet wipes, etc.)
- NEW Men and women undergarments - variety of sizes
*These gift cards will allow NACH to purchase immediate needs for these qualified individuals and their families, and help pay for hotel stays in the event that they lose their home.
**These items will be accepted in used but excellent condition. They can be found on sites like Facebook Market Place for a reduced cost. Please verify that they are in good condition including no holes, tears, mold, etc.
ONGOING NEEDS FOR OUR HOMELESS COMMUNITY
New Mattresses – Due to the bed bug epidemic, we would like to provide our clients with a new mattress, mattress cover, and bed frame as they transition to stable housing.
Housing Cost Allowance – New housing clients will be able to purchase household items with assistance by a Case Manager. These items include shower curtains, bed linens, trash cans, mops, brooms, general household items, and initial food needs. the cost for these initial shopping trips will not exceed $100.00.
Mental Health and Medical Assistance – These funds would be used to pay Co-Pays for doctor’s visits. Clients seeking mental health services are required to pay an intake fee of $35.00. Clients how are unable to pay the fee go without treatment, which impedes their ability to gain employment. These funds will also be used to purchase medications. These purchases will not exceed $100.00.
Transportation Assistance – These funds will be used to purchase bus tickets to assist clients with their transportation needs. Bus passes will be issued on a case-by-case basis to allow clients who obtain employment to travel to and from work while they work to obtain their own transportation. $20 Emergency Gas cards will be issued on a case-by-case basis to persons with vehicles.
Bus Fare – These funds will be used to purchase one-way bus tickets for clients who have verifiable Family Reunification and Supports.
Identification Cards and Birth Certificates – Funds will be used to purchase these items to assist in employment and housing searches. Clients without a State Issued ID are unable to stay at the Downtown Rescue Mission Programs, so this also allows them to have a safe place to sleep until they gain employment and housing.
Utility and Rental Assistance – On a case-by-case basis, NACH will aid with utility and rental deposits, and one-month emergency rental payments. HUD programs that provide this type of assistance are VERY specific about the eligibility requirements of this service. Unfortunately, persons without a documented disability or persons who have recently become homeless do not normally qualify. Unrestricted donations to NACH would allow us the discretion to help clients who we feel are sustainable once initial housing cost assistance is provided.
